Art Catalogs & Exhibitions

Yesterday Today Tomorrow.png
A MANIFEST FOR THE MOON

The Lunar Codex uses digital and analog technology to preserve art, books, music, and more, enclosed in time capsules and launched to the Moon. It is a message-in-a-bottle to the future.

Curatorial Notes

Many of the art works in the Codex were originally shown at galleries over 2010-2023, whose exhibition catalogues were published by GOSS183, or were included in special editions of PoetsArtists magazine. All were curated by noted figurative artists, gallerists, collectors or art critics in association with publisher Didi Menendez.

Several of these exhibitions, including Chronicles of a Future Foretold, and Shelter, were curated by Dr. Samuel Peralta. Shelter is based on a 2020 call for work specifically on the theme of shelter from the global COVID-19 pandemic that began in 2019.

A landmark exhibition featured in the Neon and Polaris time capsules, Mars: An Artistic Mission, was hosted by the California Art Club (est. 1909) to commemorate  the landing of NASA's Perseverance rover on Mars on February 18, 2021.

The Codex also features a selection of art from the 15th ARC Salon Exhibition as well as the winners and honorable mentions from the 16th ARC Salon held by the Art Renewal Center (ARC). ARC is a non-profit, educational foundation, which hosts the largest online museum dedicated to representational art, and is a leading force in the revival of realism in the visual arts.

Several private collections and assemblages are also of importance to the Lunar Codex, notably The Windrift Collection and the assemblage of artists of The Bennett Prize®. Artworks from these form the core of the works catalogued in the Νουα time capsule. We are grateful to these collections for permission to represent these works in the Codex.

* Every artist listed below has at least one artwork represented in the Codex, and many have several pieces of art represented.

- Commemorating an online art exhibition curated by Dr. Samuel Peralta, held on June 15 – Dec 31, 2020, via Artsy.net / 33 Contemporary Gallery and PoetsArtists, in collaboration with Sergio Gomez and Didi Menendez, and featured in a special article by Bella Harris in Beautiful Bizarre magazine
“All of us are living today in a shared experience that is unprecedented in living memory – a pandemic that arrived suddenly, almost without warning, a pandemic so pervasive that its influence touches everyone we know, everything we do, everywhere we go. Sometimes we feel like there is no escape, no respite. They tell us to distance ourselves from each other, from what makes us human, to shelter in place... And yet in those words there is the key to survival, far more than just physical survival. There is the one place that we can go, where we can remain ourselves, continue with the lives we’ve made. It is a place of safety that we conjure for ourselves – a quietude bounded by walls or disinfectant, or circumscribed by the arms of a child, or in the words of a prayer. For each one of us it is different, but for all of us it is the center of our quiet, our calm in the eye of the hurricane, our shelter."— S. Peralta
